This Privacy Policy explains how Digital Cowboy ("Semble", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use the Semble mobile application and related services (the "Service"). By using Semble, you agree to the practices described here.
1. Who we are
Semble is operated by Digital Cowboy, based in South Africa. If you have any questions about this policy or your data, contact us at support@semble.me.
2. Information we collect
Information you provide
- Account information. When you create an account we collect your email address, and optionally a display name and your self-described skill level. Authentication is handled through Amazon Cognito.
- Content you upload. To generate a guide, you upload photos and documents (such as product manuals, spec sheets, and photos of the area you are working on). We store this content and the guides generated from it.
- Communications. If you email us for support, we receive the information you choose to share.
Information collected automatically
- Usage data. We record limited usage information, such as the number of guides you generate, to operate features like your plan allowance.
- Purchase data. When you subscribe, our payments partner (RevenueCat) and the app store (Apple) provide us with your subscription status and transaction identifiers. We never receive or store your card or payment details — those are handled entirely by Apple.
- Technical/log data. Standard technical information such as device type, app version, and error logs used to keep the Service running and diagnose problems.
3. How we use your information
- To provide the Service — most importantly, to generate the repair and installation guides you request from the content you upload.
- To manage your account, authenticate you, and enforce plan limits.
- To process subscriptions and provide access to paid features.
- To respond to your support requests.
- To maintain, secure, debug, and improve the Service.
- To comply with legal obligations.
4. AI processing and third-party services
Semble uses artificial-intelligence services to interpret your uploaded content and generate guides and illustrations. To do this, the content you upload (manuals, photos, and related details) is sent to our AI processing providers, including Anthropic (for guide interpretation and text) and third-party AI image-generation services. These providers process your content to return results to us and, under our agreements with them, do not use your content to train their models except as permitted by their terms.
We rely on the following categories of service providers ("subprocessors") to operate Semble:
- Amazon Web Services (AWS) — cloud storage (Amazon S3) and authentication (Amazon Cognito), hosted in the AWS Africa (Cape Town / af-south-1) region.
- Anthropic and third-party AI image-generation providers — guide interpretation and illustration.
- RevenueCat and Apple — subscription management and payments.
- Railway — application hosting.
5. Storage and security
Your account data and uploaded content are stored on AWS infrastructure. Data is encrypted in transit. We apply reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information; however, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Data retention and deletion
We retain your account and content for as long as your account is active. You can permanently delete your account and all associated data directly in the app (Account → Delete account). When you do this, we delete your account record, uploaded content, and generated guides from our systems. Deleting your account does not cancel any Apple subscription — manage or cancel that in your App Store account settings. Some records may be retained where required by law or for legitimate business purposes (for example, transaction records).
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing. You can delete your account and data at any time in the app, or contact us at support@semble.me to make a request. We handle personal information in line with South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) and, where applicable, other data-protection laws.
8. Children
Semble is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the minimum age required in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
9. International transfers
Our providers may process information in countries other than your own. Where information is transferred internationally, we take steps to ensure it remains protected in line with this policy and applicable law.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Effective date" above and, for material changes, provide additional notice where appropriate.
